Textile artist Richard Carr is the co-founder of Carr Textiles, which designs textiles for a range of industries.
He has also taught at the University of Washington.
“We’re not just a textile company, we’re a textile and woodworking school,” Carr told CNN.
“We do it with a little bit of flair.
We make a lot of high-quality textiles and we also do woodworking and we do some other types of arts and crafts.
We do things with the fabric that people will not find in other companies.
And that’s a big part of the business.”
The Seattle-based company opened its doors in 2010 with an initial order of 10,000 pairs of socks.
The company grew quickly.
By 2015, it had more than 10,500 employees.
“I think one of our big strengths is that we’re very collaborative and we work with all kinds of different companies, and we have a good relationship with the people who work in those places,” Carr said.
“It’s a lot more like a local art and crafts company than a big company.”
Carr says that although he has had the pleasure of working with the likes of the Dalai Lama, President Donald Trump, and the Queen, his most memorable experience has been working with children in poor countries.
“When I was growing up in Africa, I went to school with some of the poorest people in the world.
I’m sure I have that experience,” he said.”
So I’ve learned a lot about how children grow up, how they work, and what their needs are, and how they interact with their environments.”
Carp is quick to point out that there are many benefits to working with people from other cultures.
“I have been really fortunate in that I’ve had a lot (of people) who have helped me in my career.
There are some amazing people from many different cultures working in my business.”
He added: “I can say with absolute certainty that I can be a better person when I’m working with someone from another culture.”
Cars art and design is seen as an important step in bridging the gap between people from different cultures.
“A lot of people in our industry have been in a position of not really knowing how to communicate with people of other cultures,” Carr continued.
“There are some really great teachers and people who are helping us to communicate, but that’s still a very small portion of the whole business.”CNN’s Danika Bohn contributed to this report.
